Taiping is the 2nd largest city in the state of Perak Malaysia,the first being Ipoh.While driving from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh you will find many limestone hills and some caves on the either side,some of which have been left very barren for making tiles of limestone.
However,the very popular Batu Caves(13 kms from KL) is an amazing limestone hill which is also sacred place for Hindus in Malaysia.It is the main cave, the temple cave, in a hilly massif known as Bukit Batu, Rocky Hill.They say that the Tamils,travelled in search of fortune.In the 18th and 19th century, Malaya (now Malaysia) was no optional. The ancestors who came here, brought along with them the Divine Mother - Sri Maha Mariamman and his "Gnana Kulantai", Sri Subramaniar to be worshipped and prayed for their protection. Thus Sri Maha Mariamman Temple was built in 1873 in Kuala Lumpur.Batu Caves also has more than 160 climbing routes!
White Water Rafting: Blessed with many rivers(Sungai Selangor , Sungai Kampar, Sungai Sungkai,Sungai Slim etc )Perak in Malaysia is quite a full-on place for white water rafting.Some of these have trails where you travel through Aborigines,ancient forest,limestone caves,fruit orchards and the grades are from 1-6 class rapids.The season for white water rafting is June-July during monsoons.
