WHY LEH LADAKH?
1)Leh Ladakh cauz of its no fuss travel, broad roads, lovely people and beautiful landscapes.
2)Leh Ladakh cauz of there are some places on earth you would love to just visit for no reason.Take for example,New Zealand.
3)Leh Ladakh cauz of military, any place which is forbidden or once was ,suddenly becomes an area of interest...specially when it shares border with two most interesting countries Pak and China.
4)Leh Ladakh cauz of bacterian camels.
5)Leh Ladakh cauz of 3 IDIOTS.
6)Leh Ladakh cauz I like the name "SIACHEN",the craziest reason to visit leh ever.
WHY LEH-ED THRICE?
I would love to introduce myself as a Leh lover.Been thrice summers winters autumn and every time Leh offered me a different view a different perspective. Not many places in India can be visited twice or thrice, but this place is just so serene that it could be the best thing ever happened to you, at least in India.
I know It all might sound a little exaggerated, but Leh is one place that offers a different ariel view, snow capped mountains and the bare mountains.Rivers all blue. And its so amazing that each time we went Leh,it was never that I slept in the plane, and the same for most of the passengers.People regret not taking a window seat here, taking a nap is just out of question.
TIP 01 FOR LEH-LADAKH
DON'T FORGET THE WINDOW SEAT,IT'S WORTH IT
LEH-LADAKH FROM THE PLANE
The planes which go to Leh,either fly at a lower height or the mountains are tall making it,just so nearby and so clearly visible. The first glance and you say "wow" is this where are you going..
And then..the announcement:
For those who travel from Delhi-Leh in March-April pls note that the winters in Delhi is summers compared to winters in Leh.The temperature goes in minus, and woollens and jackets can be the first thing to save you from the chill.
VIDEO ON LEH LADAKH
MY EXPERIENCE LEH-LADAKH: WINTERS 2009
,
I consider myself real lucky that I dun feel much cold anywhere, not in Delhi atleast. And since It was my first time Leh,I checked all the possible "accu temperature on net" which said the temperature in Leh could be anywhere 7-8 degrees.Rubbish, the announcement in the plane was -3 degrees temperature outside.
Now with the fashionista I am,I had my sleeveless on,no jackets no sweaters..and the moment I stepped out it was cold chill, more so the cold breeze.Luckily I didn't fall ill,but the jacket was the first thing I got from the Leh market.
TIP 02 FOR LEH-LADAKH
THE TEMPERATURE IN LEH VARIES EVERY DAY.YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU CAN WITNESS A SNOWFALL..EVEN IN SUMMERS,SO CARRY APPROPRIATE WOOLENS!
ACCLIMATIZATION IN LEH-LADAKH:AN UNHEARD FEAR OR IT IS SERIOUS
Acclimatization in Leh-Ladakh in late winters(mar-april) : It's bad, real bad. With trees covered with snow and Leh already being at 11000 feet, the lack of oxygen is the first thing you notice in winters. Not to worry, take a half a day rest or maximum a day rest. And then move on,first to lower altitudes then to higher ones. There could be a slight breathing difficulty if your plan is too packed up.
Acclimatization in Leh-Ladakh in summers(may-october) : Strangely for people who complain of acclimatization in Leh in summers, have no idea how winters could be.Take a half a day rest then explore Leh,the market, shanti stupa etc etc.
Depends, the trip to Leh with my parents was tricky.Somehow acclimatization for my mom wasn't proper due to hurried plans, and love the army meds out there, she was fine. Then again, you never know.
TIP 03 FOR LEH-LADAKH
AMS IS SERIOUS..Contact your nearest medical camp if you feel discomfort even after two days rest. Most people don't feel sick,so do not panic with just the name of AMS

ReplyDeleteThis is Maulik Gandhi from Rajkot, Gujarat.
ReplyDeleteI get to ur blog through youtube.
we are 4 to 5 couples planning to go to Leh Ladakh in August/September. Can you please inform how much time it will take to reach Leh from Srinagar by Road.
@Maulik Gandhi:The distance is around 430 kms,and since the terrain is hilly,it takes 1.5 days - 2 days for the road journey. Please stop over at Kargil/drass for day 1 night. You can also do the stretch in whole one day without a stop but that would be extremely hectic and rash and you wouldn't be able to enjoy much.If you are planning to do it in one day, keep in mind that gate onwards Sonmarg(comes in between srinagar-leh) opens at 6 am,so plan accordingly. But I still suggest 2 days,I have done the route twice, and it takes 1.5-2 days at your own convinience.
ReplyDelete@Maulik Gandhi:So if you are leaving Srinagar by around 7-8 am,you should be reaching leh the next day by around 4-5 pm(with a night stop-over at Kargil)
ReplyDeleteI have heard many praising words about bike riding in Leh and currently planning for summer trip to Ladakh. I also have collected online and also have planned a trip itinerary.
